ANNOUNCEMENTS OF NEW NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES STAFF .
October 18, 1999, NEW YORK CITY - At its October 4-5 and
September 8 meetings, the National Council of Churches Executive
Board confirmed the appointments of the following new NCC staff:
Barbara Ellen Black of Roslyn Harbor, N.Y., Interim General
Manager
- begins November 1
- Roman Catholic
- most recently executive vice president and treasurer, Dowling
College, Oakdale, N.Y. (since 1997)
- previous positions in administration and finance at Fordham
University, Hunter College, Molloy College, Kinney Data Services
Inc. (Warner Communications) and Dancer-Fitzgerald-Sample Inc.

- founder and president, Commuter Educational Services (1971-73)
- visiting professor at Teacher's College, "Financial Administration
in Higher Education" (1991-93)
Valerie A. Fields of Flushing, N.Y., CPA, Controller
- began September 20
- member, North Shore Baptist Church, Bayside, N.Y.
- most recently controller for American Friends of the Hebrew
University (since 1994)
- has diversified background in other public, private and not-for-
profit areas of accounting, including benefits consulting, certified

- raised in the Roman Catholic Church, not currently affiliated

Linda Hartke, New York City, Director of Programs and
Operations, Church World Service and Witness
- interim director of programs and operations of CWSW since June
1997; interim director of the CWSW Community Education and Fund
Raising Program (June 1998-March 1999)
- member, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
- worked with CWSW/Cambodia Program from 1992-1997
- earlier work in the political field, including as chief of staff
to Congressman Chet Atkins (1985-92)
The Rev. Patrice Rosner, St. Louis, Mo., Director of Ministries
in Christian Education, National Ministries Unit
- begins January 2000
- ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
- most recently vice president and director of the Congregational
Ministries Department, Christian Board of Publication, Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ) (since 1977)
- previously a congregational pastor
- active in the NCC's life, serving on the National Ministries Unit
Committee and as Vice Chair of the Ministries in Christian Education

- ordained traveling Elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal

including as a Senior Pastor of a CME church for over six years,
employment with several Fortune 100 companies, and fellowship with
the U.S. Department of Housing and Development
- created infrastructures, relief and economic development
initiatives at five refugee camps housing Rwandan and Burundian
refugees fleeing war in Central Africa, under the aegis of the
General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church

Rick Santos of West Hartford, Conn., as Interim Director, CWSW
Southern Asia Office
- begins November 1
- member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
- most recently spent five and a half years with CWS in Southern
Asia, including Vietnam, Bangladesh and Indonesia. As Country
Director and Project Manager for the CWS Indonesia Program, he
reopened the CWS Indonesia office (closed for nearly two and a half
years) and administered a $2.5 million U.S. government-funded
emergency food for work program in Sulawesi
- first overseas experience was in 1987 with the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.)'s Volunteers in Mission program as an English teacher at
Bangkok Christian College, Bangkok, Thailand
