New Life 2010 Emphasis Supported by Prayer
American Baptists are in prayer for NEW LIFE 2010.
Across the country church leaders have gathered in different
settings to pray for the denominational mission to plant
1,010 new churches, reach 1,000,010 new believers and
vitalize a multitude of caring ministries by the year 2010.
National Ministries sponsored regional prayer summits
in May on the East Coast and in September on the West Coast.
Participants at the Evangelism Meeting in August also
gathered at Green Lake, Wis., in an all-night prayer vigil
to pray for God's guidance and blessing on the mission
ahead.
"Christ began with a small number whom he called to
'wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit,'" said Onie
Kittle, Riverton, N.J., after the spring prayer summit in
Whiting, N.J. "In the days and years to come we will surely
see the fruits of our labors."
In late September American Baptists who gathered near
Los Angeles had a similar experience. "The three days and
nights we were together seemed to fly past," said one
participant. "We asked the Lord to be with us--and saw
God's face."
Approximately 100 people participated in the all-night
prayer vigil at Green Lake. The group prayed, sang, shared
Scripture and testified throughout the night. The vigil
ended with a walk to see the sun rise. The event was,
according to Dr. Annette James, "a wonderful experience in
prayer." James, of Shinnston, W.V., is the chair of
National Ministries Prayer Task Force.
Dr. Aidsand F. Wright-Riggins III, National Ministries
executive director, "prayed alongside" those participating
in the prayer events. "My grandmother always said to me,
'Much prayer, much power; little prayer, little power,'" he
said. "That is as true as when I heard it 40 years ago. I
believe American Baptists will continue to be empowered for
NEW LIFE 2010 as we continue to pray for the leading of the
Spirit."
As the planned national prayer events concluded
Wright-Riggins expressed his belief that American Baptist
churches and individuals will not cease praying for new
life. Posters and bulletin leaflets promoting the prayer
emphasis are available in quantity from National Ministries
at no charge. Call 800-ABC-3USA/ ext. 2464 to order.
