Church Announces Drug Awareness Month
Silver Spring, Maryland, USA .... [ANN]

The Seventh-day Adventist Church announced December 9 that May 2000 is
identified as Drug Awareness month in connection with its highly-successful
"Walk Around the World 2000" marches for a drug-free lifestyle.

Speaking at the Church's World Headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland,
general vice-president Leo Ranzolin said that the Church was calling for the
widest possible support for the program.

"As many as possible are asked to join a Walk 2000 to show a commitment to a
life free from drugs," said Ranzolin. "I am asking that each one of you
support this project by urging all members of the Church to participate next
May."

The finale of the Walk 2000 program will be at the Church's World Session in
Toronto in July when a special march is expected to include civic
dignitaries and leaders in a concluding ceremony to the many Walks for a
drug-free lifestyle held around the world, comments program coordinator Reg
Burgess.

"Hundreds of walks have been held as part of the Walk Around the World 2000
program," says Burgess. "From Bermuda to Australia, from India to Africa and
South America, young people have been marching to demonstrate their active
commitment to a life free from drugs. This is a vital part of our lifestyle
message, and we want to communicate this to as many as possible."

Seventh-day Adventists have consistently promoted a drug-free lifestyle as
