Crandall to Lead World Mission Support

Robert J. Crandall, an experienced education
administrator and fund-raising executive who has served at
several American Baptist-related schools, has been named
associate general secretary for World Mission Support of
American Baptist Churches USA.
The appointment, effective Feb. 7, 2000, was announced
by American Baptist Churches USA General Secretary
Daniel E. Weiss. Crandall will succeed Dr. Robert H.
Roberts, who is retiring Jan. 31.
For the past year Crandall has been vice president for
advancement for Jerusalem University College in Israel.
Operating out of its North American office in Rockford,
Ill., Crandall has led all fund raising at the school. He
also has been a fund-raising consultant for American
Baptist-related Bacone College, Muskogee, Okla., and other
institutions.
Previously Crandall served as director of major gifts
at Jesuit High School in Sacramento, Calif. , from 1995-
1998.
He was an administrator at Bacone College from 1991-
1995, first as director of development and later as
executive vice president. Among other accomplishments
during that time he raised $9.5 million in a campaign with a
$7.3-million goal.
At the University of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls, S.D.,
another American Baptist-related school, he served from
1984-1989 as executive director of development. In that
position he raised $8.38 million in the school's $7.1-
million Century 2 Fund Campaign goal and increased the
school's endowment by 178 percent. He previously served as
director of admissions at the university from 1976-1977.
Crandall holds a B.A. degree in psychology and history
from the University of Sioux Falls and an M.A.T. in
education from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.
He is a Ph.D. candidate in leadership and philanthropy at
Union Institute in Cincinnati.
He has been a member of the National Society of Fund
Raising Executives, the American Baptist Churches USA Public
Relations Association and the National Council of Planned
Giving, among other organizations.
In announcing the appointment, Weiss commended
Crandall's "extensive experience and proven accomplishment
in fund raising and development."
"Bob Crandall's commendable work in, and obvious
commitment to, American Baptist-related institutions have
prepared him very well to assume his new responsibilities,"
Weiss said. "I believe he will provide the inspiration and
motivation for the kind of successful denomination-wide
stewardship necessary to meet the challenges in a new
millennium of witness in Christ's name."
