`Frontier Mission' Conference Slated
September gathering to build on goal to evangelize `unreached' peoples
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Worldwide Ministries Division (WMD) of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) is sponsoring a conference - "FRONTIER 2000: Out
Of The Box, Into The World" - Sept. 15-17 in San Diego, Calif.
The conference will focus on the evangelism work of the PC(U.S.A.) in
the area of "frontier mission" - evangelism to groups that have never been
reached with the gospel.
The conference is a response to the 1996 General Assembly's adoption of
the goal of "a church for every people and the gospel for every person by
the year 2000." This is also the unifying theme of the "AD2000 and Beyond"
movement, the largest collaboration for world evangelism in Christian
history. Churches, organizations and leaders of this movement are
primarily from Third World countries. The PC(USA) is working at the
cutting edge of mission by partnering with many to reach these unreached
people groups. The conference is an outgrowth of this work.
Keynote speakers include the Rev. Marian McClure, WMD director; the
Rev. Harold Kurtz, executive director of Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship;
the Rev. Chris Callison, PC(USA) missionary to the Kurds in Berlin; and
Oswaldo Prado, a Brazilian pastor working with the AD2000 movement.
Learning and networking with others who have similar interests will be
a primary focus of the conference. More than 30 seminars will be offered
providing opportunities for beginners and for those seeking greater
involvement.
Early registration is $99. For more information contact Elaine Matthes
in the Worldwide Ministries Division at (502) 569-5263; e-mail
