SMITH AND SUNDQUIST TO BWA POSTS 

 Two longtime American Baptist leaders were elected 
last month to serve five-year terms as vice presidents of 
the Baptist World Alliance.
 Dr. G. Elaine Smith, an attorney from Washington, D.C. 
and a past president (1996-1997) of American Baptist 
Churches USA, and Dr. John A. Sundquist, executive director 
of American Baptist International Ministries, were named to 
the BWA posts during the 18th Baptist World Congress in 
Melbourne, Australia.  They will serve along with 14 other 
regional vice presidents from around the world.  
 Dr. Emmett V. Johnson, former director of evangelism 
and new church planting for American Baptist National 
Ministries, recently completed a five-year term as a BWA 
vice president.
 Also named to a new post with the BWA was Dr. Robert 
H. Roberts, who will serve as chair of the Promotion and 
Development Committee.  Roberts retired Jan. 31 after 
serving a decade as American Baptist Churches USA associate 
general secretary for World Mission Support.
