LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Planning Team for the upcoming "Year of the Child"
mission focus for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has received a $20,000
grant to encourage seminary participation in the "Year of the Child."

The grant - from the Griffith Theological Research Foundation of
Columbia Theological Seminary - will be used to provide $2,000 incentives
to each of the 10 PC(USA) theological institutions to host a special event
(continuing education event, conference, seminar) or begin a new program
(involvement of Master of Divinity students in community outreach, etc.)
related to the needs of children during the "Year of the Child."

"The Year of the Child Planning Team is challenging every Presbyterian
congregation or entity to start at least one ongoing program on behalf of
children during the `Year of the Child,'" said planning team moderator the
Rev. Kirby Hill of Lithonia, Ga. "The planning team believes the seminary
involvement will be an important resource in meeting that challenge."

The "Year of the Child" officially begins at the upcoming General
Assembly in Long Beach, Calif.
