WCC Central Committee to meet in Berlin

The next meeting of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches (WCC) is to be held in Berlin, Germany, from 29 January to 6 February 2001. This was decided by the WCC at a meeting in Bossey, near Geneva, from 29 February to 3 March, when its Executive Committee accepted an invitation from the German churches to hold the Central Committee meeting in Berlin.

During the meeting in Berlin, the official launching ceremony of the Decade to Overcome Violence will be celebrated in company with churches around the world.

The WCC's 158-member governing body meets every 18 months. The members of the Central Committee are elected at WCC assemblies and serve for a period of seven years, representing the WCC's 337 member churches. The moderator of the WCC Central Committee is Aram I, Catholicos of Cilicia.
