AMERICAN BAPTIST CHURCHES USA HONORED
WITH WORLD RELIEF AWARD

  American Baptist Churches USA has received the Open
Hands Award from World Relief, the international assistance
arm of the National Association of Evangelicals, in
recognition of the denomination's "compassion toward the
world's hungry and homeless."

  The award, presented at the annual meeting of the
National Association of Evangelicals March 6-8, in
Arlington, Va., was accepted by Joseph Stoner, a member of
the ABC/USA General Board and observer to the NAE from the
General Board.

  World Relief has responded to recent disasters in
Mozambique and Sierra Leone, among other locations.  It is
committed to emergency relief, refugee ministries and long-
term assistance.

  Other American Baptists attending the NAE meeting were
Dr. Cheryl Wade, ABC/USA associate general secretary and
treasurer, and John Finney, a member of the General Board's
Committee on Christian Unity.
