Radio Station KFUO, the world's longest continuously-operating religious
radio station, won Excellence in Media's "Gold Angel" award at the 23rd
annual "International Angel Awards" ceremony Feb. 24 in Hollywood, Calif.
Owned and operated by The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, KFUO received
Excellence in Media's highest honor for 75 years of service to the St.
Louis-area radio audience.

Excellence in Media is devoted to promoting morality in film, television,
video, radio and print.

"Today there are some 1,700 religious radio stations in the United States,"
said Dr. Paul Devantier, executive director of the Missouri Synod's Board
for Communication Services. "In 1924, there was only one with a vision for
excellence in religious broadcasting that has continued nonstop for 75
years. We pledge to continue to pursue excellence in the future for the
sake of Jesus Christ."

Though this was the first time the Synod or its related organizations have
won Excellence in Media's "Gold Angel" award, they have received its "Silver
Angel" honor in years past, and this year picked up four more. Synod
entitites won a 2000 "Silver Angel" in each of the following categories:
* Video: "Free to Voice the Gospel: The Epilogue," a summary of KFUO's
legal victory over the Federal Communications Commision, which had sought to
limit the station's First Amendment rights.

* Print: "For Faith and Freedom," an article by Lois Ford Long published in
NRB, the magazine of the National Religious Broadcasters. The article
treated the same subject as the video. Long is vice president, news, for
FACTA NEWS, Inc., a consortium of individuals from six major denominations
who serve as resource to secular journalists and religious communicators.
* Radio: The Bible Brain-Teaser for Kids Only!, Produced by KFUO.
* National Television: Puzzle Club Pet-Napping, a half-hour children's
program produced by Lutheran Hour Ministries.

In all, Excellence in Media gave out this year a total of 16 "Gold
Angel"and 148 "Silver Angel" awards.
