ELCA SEMINARIES PLAN 2000 COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES

     CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The eight seminaries and Texas extension campus
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) are planning
commencement exercises for degree recipients at the close of the 
1999-2000 academic year.

MAY 12    Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (LSTG), Pa.
Place:  Church of the Abiding Presence (LTSG Chapel)
Speaker:  The Rev. Darold H. Beekmann, LTSG President

MAY 12    Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, S.C.
Place:  Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Columbia
Speaker:  The Rev. Gary L. Harbaugh, pastoral care specialist, Lutheran
Disaster Response, and professor emeritus for pastoral care ministry,
Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio

MAY 13    Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS), Berkeley, Calif.
Place:  PLTS Chapel of the Cross, Berkeley
Speaker:  Dr. William C. Spohn, professor of Christian ethics and the
common good, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, Calif.

MAY 14    Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa
Place:  St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque
Speaker:  Bishop April Ulring Larson, ELCA LaCrosse (Wis.) Area Synod

MAY 16    Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest (LSPS), Austin, Texas
Place:  Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Austin
Speaker:  Dr. James Forbes, senior pastor, Riverside Church, New York

     LSPS is an extension of Wartburg Theological Seminary and the
     Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and is located on the
     campus of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest
     (ETSS).  Commencement activities are conducted jointly with ETSS.

MAY 21    Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.
Place:  Central Lutheran Church, 333 S 12th St, Minneapolis
Speaker:  The Rev. Ann Svennungsen, Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead,
Minn.

MAY 21    Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP)
Place:  LTSP Chapel, Philadelphia
Speaker:  The Rev. William Shafer, LTSP's former registrar and director
for community services, Oreland, Pa.

JUNE 3    Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio
Place:  Mees Auditorium, Capital University, Columbus
Speaker:  Dr. Kathryn F. Wolford, president, Lutheran World Relief,
Baltimore

JUNE 4    Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago
Place:  St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Chicago
Speaker:  The Rev. James D. Ford, retired chaplain of the U.S. House of
Representatives, Washington, D.C.
