World Federation (LWF) has appointed one of its newest members, Ms Inger
Johanne Wremer from the Church of Norway as the Federation's new treasurer.
Wremer, 57, elected on 15 June with an overwhelming majority, succeeds
Dr. Sigrun Mogedal, also from Norway, who tendered her resignation in
March 2000 following her appointment as State Secretary for
International Development in the Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The treasurer is a newcomer not only to the position of the Federation's
chief financial officer and consequently the Executive Committee.
Minutes before, the same Council meeting, acting on a recommendation of
its Nomination's Committee, accepted with a unanimous vote the proposal
by the LWF member church to have Wremer, a career educationist succeed
Mogedal. The governing body of the Federation is meeting from 14 to 21
June 2000 in Finland's historical capital, Turku.
According to the Constitution of the LWF (Article X. 2 ), "The Treasurer
shall oversee the financial activities and shall counsel the President
and the General Secretary in this respect."
The Treasurer serves ex officio as chairperson of the Program Committee
of the Office for Finance and Administration. Wremer's term like that of
other Council members runs until the next Assembly. Her predecessor was
appointed at the Ninth Assembly meeting in Hong, Kong, China in 1997.
Wremer brings into the Federation 17 years of experience having taught
in schools, worked as a researcher and held senior positions in various
government ministries in Norway. She has worked as a consultant in
pedagogics and served in various advisory positions with departments and
ministries dealing with children's and youth education as well as with
church affairs. Since 15 May this year, she has been working as the
director of Norway's Organization for Commerce Services, with special
responsibilities for voluntary organizations, private hospitals and
schools.
Wremer, who holds a bachelor's degree in history and special education
from the University of Oslo is a member of the Church of Norway's board
for diaconia and society. In addition, she serves on the board of
Norwegian Church Aid, the church's international development agency,
which works in collaboration with the LWF Department for World Service
(DWS). Her international experience includes involvement in negotiations
with the European Union concerning her country's participation in youth
development programs. She has also served as a member of the Norwegian
delegation to the United Nations Committee on women.

children and one grandchild.

decision making body is the Assembly, held every six or seven years.
Between Assemblies, the LWF is governed by a 49-member Council which
meets annually, and its Executive Committee. The LWF secretariat is
