Clarification regarding inclusive language action
by Bill Lancaster
LONG BEACH, June 27 --The Rev. Charles Wiley, an associate in the Office of
Theology and Worship, feels that the headline of the article, "Theological
Issues Committee recommends seeking inclusive language terms for the persons
of the Trinity," is unclear and offers the following clarification of what
the study will entail if approved by the 212th General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) meeting here.
"The focus of the study is on the Trinity in Presbyterian worship, theology
and life, which will include but not focus on Trinitarian language. There is
no intention to replace the Trinitarian formula, but to enrich our ways of
understanding God."
