Electronic face-to-face begins in a meeting within a meeting

LONG BEACH, June 27 - A meeting around the edge of the 212th General 
Assembly  has brought to life an idea from presbytery executives in the
Synod of Living Waters.  During the 212th General Assembly, an opportunity
to plan the first electronic face-to-face event came about when General
Assembly staff and presbytery staff got together.

   Getting the right people in place for this meeting Tuesday will help get
the right people together later on.  Set up weeks ago by director of
churchwide personnel services Marcia Myers, the meeting in Long Beach with
Barry Creech and Sylvia Barger was attended by Memphis Presbytery Executive
Dick Baldwin, North Alabama Presbytery Executive John Rickard, Middle
Tennessee Presbytery Executive Phil Leftwich and Sheppards and Lapsley
Presbytery Executive Terry Newland.   From their conversation, a plan
emerged that may become  a model for the entire denomination.  This fall, it
 will help congregations and pastors find each other in the Synod of Living
Waters.  Creech is coordinator for communication assistance and consulting
and Barger is associate for church services.

       A chat room on Presbynet will be set up for two weeks, October
1-October 14, 2000.  For those who have registered ahead of time, Church
Information Forms and Personal Information Forms will be available for
perusal by pastors and church committees.  If any of them find anyone or any
place that seems interesting, arrangements can be made by phone or by email
to meet and talk further.  This first event is planned primarily for
churches in the Synod of Living Waters and for pastors across the country. 
A second event will be planned for next spring.
