Parsons becomes new director of strategic operations
by Emett H. Barfield
LONG BEACH, June 29 - The Rev. Gradye Parsons, Executive Presbyter of
Holston Presbytery, will become the Director of Strategic Operations for
the Office of the General Assembly (OGA) on September 1, 2000.
Among the responsibilities of this office are the day to day operation of
the OGA, and planning the 2001 General Assembly, as well as budgeting and
some staffing responsibilities.
Parsons said the greatest challenge of his new position will be to broaden
his perception of the church from regional to national. " I look forward to
working with General Assembly Stated Clerk, the Rev. Cliff Kirkpatrick and
the other talented people in OGA," he said. His deepest regret, he said,
will be, "leaving all the excellent staff and friends in Holston
Presbytery."
Parsons currently serves on the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian
Church (U. S. A.). His contribution to the Synod of Living Waters is praised
by former Synod Executive Harold Jackson and current Synod Executive David
Snellgrove. Prior to serving as executive presbyter, he was pastor of the
Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church of Bristol, Tenn. for over nine years. He
began his ministry in Newport Presbyterian Church, Newport, Tenn.
