ADRA Displays Habitats From Around The World
In Metro Toronto Convention Centre

Toronto, Ontario. The public is welcome to
experience "ADRA's World," the international,
educational exhibit of the Adventist Development
and Relief Agency (ADRA). The exhibit, which
includes an interactive, life-size display of
habitats from around the world, will be at the
Metro Toronto Convention Centre during the
Seventh-day Adventist World Session, Torontošs
largest convention ever, June 29 to July 8.

"ADRA's World," which is the name of ADRA
International's weekly television program, will
highlight life-size representations of huts from
South America, southeast Asia and Africa for
visitors to view up close. While visiting these
habitats from developing nations, a tour guide
will explain where residents get the materials
they need to build their homes, and why they build
them the way they do. Visitors will also receive
material explaining the agencyšs mission to the
poor, and outlining its major portfolios.

"It is important to ADRA that visitors leave the
exhibit understanding that although the people
living in these habitats are usually very poor,
they have the same concerns for their family and
children as anyone else, and are devastated by
illness and disaster," explains Byron Scheuneman,
ADRA International senior vice president. "It is
ADRA's motto to help all people regardless of
status, age, ethnicity, or political or religious
association."

At the exhibit, there will also be a video/audio
station for visitors to learn about ADRA's
programs worldwide, with language tracks in
English, French, German and Spanish. Included at
the video station will be episodes of the
television program ADRA's World. ADRA's World airs
on the 3ABN satellite network each Sunday at 2:00
p.m. (CST) and Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. (CST). In the
United States and Canada, 3ABN is available via
satellite on GE-4 channel 1. For parts of North
America 3ABN can be seen on Sky Angel Channel
9710. 3ABN is also available in Europe on Eutelsat
Hot Bird 5; in Africa, Asia, and Australia on
Thaicom-3; and in Central and South America on New
Skies Satellite NSS-806.

Also included in ADRA's activities during the
Seventh-day Adventist World Session will be
international musical performances and interviews,
and a "humanitarian art" display at Toronto City
Hall from June 26 to July 6.

ADRA, established in 1984, was created with the
specific purpose of individual and community
development, and disaster relief. Today, the non-
governmental organization (NGO) has a presence in
more than 120 countries. Its community-based
development program includes a wide range of
activities leading to improved health, economic
and social well being and self-reliance.
