Plans already under way for 2004 General Conference

Before the dust has completely settled after the United Methodist General
Conference in Cleveland last May, plans are already under way for the next
conference in Pittsburgh April 27-May 7, 2004.

The top legislative body of the denomination, comprising nearly 1,000
international delegates, meets every four years.

The first regular meeting of the new Commission on the General Conference is
scheduled for Sept. 19-21 in Chicago. Chairman is the Rev. James M. Perry,
Minneapolis; vice chairman for program, the Rev. Kenneth Chalker, Cleveland;
vice chairman of facilities, Nancy Foster, Tulsa, Okla.; and secretary, Paul
Extrum-Fernandez, West Sacramento, Calif.

Other members of the commission, elected at the Cleveland conference, are:
the Rev. Roberto L. Gomez, Mission, Texas; the Rev. Gail Murphy-Geiss,
Aurora, Colo.; the Rev. Glenn B. Kohlepp, Harmony, Pa.; Shirley Parris,
Brooklyn, N.Y.; Roland Siegrist, Linz, Austria; Mollie M. Stewart,
Valhermosa Springs, Ala.; the Rev. Phylemon D. Titus, Detroit; the Rev.
Denny White Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; Marie-Sol Villalon, Roxas, Philippines;
Aileen L.Williams, Rochester, Minn.; and the Rev. David Wilson, Oklahoma
City.

Ex-officio members are Carolyn M. Marshall, Veedersburg, Ind., secretary of
the General Conference; Sandra Kelley Lackore, Evanston, Ill., treasurer;
and Gary K. Bowen, General Conference business manager.
