Adventist World Radio Receives Permit To Build A
Bigger Voice

Rome/Italy. On 4 July 2000, the city council of
Argenta, Italy, granted to Adventist World Radio
(AWR) a "long-awaited, long-prayed-for" permit to
build a new short-wave facility to reach the Middle
East, North, East and West Africa and large areas of
the Asian continent, according to Don Jacobsen,
AWR president.

Jacobsen said that, after a final technical review by
AWR engineers next month, bids for construction
would be let, and construction could begin soon
after.

"In cooperation with the six divisions that will be
affected," says Jacobsen, "this new station will
enable us to add some 15 new languages to the
nearly 60 that AWR is already using, focusing
primarily on those areas of the world where we are
not now able to work by any other means. It will
give us complete coverage of the 10-40 window, in
the languages of the people who live there."

The Italian government passed a law allowing for
short-wave stations owned by non-profit
organizations in 1995, and under this law, granted
AWR a short-wave license in 1996. In September
1997, a zoning variance allowed the construction of
the station in a formerly agricultural area.

Groundbreaking is slated for August 2000, said
Jacobsen. "We invite the world church to join the
Adventist World Radio staff in a splendid corporate
doxology as this great gospel lighthouse becomes a
reality at last!" (210/2000)
