WILLIAMS RESIGNS AS EXECUTIVE IN ROCHESTER/GENESEE REGION
TO ACCEPT PASTORATE OF FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN ROCHESTER
The Rev. Dr. W. Kenneth Williams, who has served the
past five years as executive minister of the American
Baptist Churches of the Rochester/Genesee Region, has
announced his resignation, effective Dec. 31, in order to
become senior minister of The First Baptist Church of
Rochester.
Williams has led the region's work with its 34
congregations and in relating those churches to American
Baptist Churches USA nationally and internationally since
1995.
In denominational and ecumenical responsibilities
Williams has been a member of the American Baptist Churches
USA Regional Executive Ministers Council, World Mission
Support Council, General Executive Council and Roger
Williams Fellowship, among other work. He is a trustee of
the Fairport Baptist Home and has been involved in civic
activities in Rochester through the Urban League, Interfaith
Alliance, Greater Rochester Community of Churches and other
organizations.
He has been a trustee of Colgate Rochester Divinity
School where he also has served as a faculty member.
Williams holds the M.Div. degree from Colgate
Rochester Divinity School and the D.Min. degree from
McCormick Theological Seminary. He previously served
pastorates at First Baptist Church, Waukesha, Wis.; Hyde
Park Union Church, Chicago, Ill.; and the Baptist Temple,
Rochester.
In 1993 Williams was scholar-in-residence at the
Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs in Washington,
D.C.
