NCC OPENS SEARCH FOR COMMUNICATION DIRECTOR
October 6, 2000, NEW YORK CITY - The National Council of Churches has opened its search for an Associate General Secretary for Communications and Interpretation, to develop and sustain a "comprehensive communication and marketing program to promote the Council and its programs."
The Council's Executive Board, meeting this week, endorsed the position description, which includes background on the NCC, along with the challenges facing the new Associate General Secretary for Communications and Interpretation and the qualities being sought in candidates.
According to the job description, "This individual will be expected to provide communications leadership, build and maintain a positive public profile of NCCC/CWS&W (the National Council of Churches and its humanitarian response ministry, Church World Service and Witness), and to market the organization's programs, research findings and advocacy positions through the church and secular media. The Associate General Secretary must appreciate the complex and evolving nature of the NCCC and develop appropriate strategies for interpretation and promotion." The position is based in the Council's New York City headquarters.
The Search Committee, aided by the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller in Boston, Mass., anticipates a first review of applications on November 7, hoping to make its final selection in mid-December.
