Two new "Year of the Child" resources released

Video, ‘Church & Society' issue are ‘ready to use'

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- With the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) "Year of the Child"
in full swing, two new resources have been released: a new video companion
to the Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study and a special edition of Church
& Society magazine.

	"You probably have in your wallet, as I do in mine, pictures of our own
healthy, happy, aspiring American children," says the Rev. Eileen Lindner, a
Presbyterian minister and children's advocate for the National Council of
Churches, in her introductory remarks on "Whoever Welcomes This Child
Welcomes Me" -- a 28-minute video that gives a snapshot of the problems
facing children domestically and internationally. "But I would ask you as a
Christian to think about whose pictures are in God's wallet, so to speak."

	The video also pictures the church at work lifting up the gifts of the
world's children and responding to their needs.  Building on Jesus'
statement in Matthew 18:5, the video produced by Internet and Media Services
in the Office of Communication highlights ministries in San Antonio,
Louisville, Los Angeles, and the Philippines.

	An accompanying study guide makes the video ready to be used by Sunday
school classes, small groups, circles, committees, or even in the context of
worship.

	"The Whole World in God's Hands?  Children: Not Whole Yet" is the title for
the September/October issue of Church & Society magazine.  The needs of
children internationally is the theme for this resource with a variety of
articles addressing health, war, and poverty-related concerns.

	Articles by national and international experts focus on addressing the
problems of nutrition, disease, sexual exploitation, child refugees, land
mines, child soldiers, child labor, and street children.  Sermons, poetry, a
hymn, along with discussion questions for each of the articles make this a
user-friendly resource appropriate for a number of settings.
