More than 100 frosh receive Presbyterian scholarships

Nearly 500 Presbyterian students now getting college aid from PC(USA)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Financial Aid for Studies Office here has announced
that 113 freshman students entering a Presbyterian-related college or
university have been awarded National Presbyterian College Scholarships for
the 2000-01 academic year.

	The scholarship grants are given annually to students entering
PC(USA)-related higher education institutions.

	This years frosh winners have joined 349 sophomores, juniors and seniors
who had their scholarship awards renewed. National Presbyterian College
Scholarships are based on academic achievement and a strong commitment to
their home church.

	The National Presbyterian College Scholarship is open to high school
seniors who plan to attend a Presbyterian related college/university.  A
Reading Team of Admission Officers from participating institutions reviews
applications and selects semi-finalists for the program.   The institution
the student has chosen to attend selects recipients for the scholarships.
	Chosen students are eligible to receive an annual award of up to $1,400,
based on the student's financial need.  Awards may either be co-sponsored by
the Financial Aid for Studies Office in the National Ministries Division and
the related institution or the award may be given solely by the
college/university.
	
	High school seniors who are considering attending a Presbyterian-related
college or university in the fall of 2001 should apply for these
scholarships by Dec.1, 2000.  Applications are available from the Office of
Financial Aid for Studies by phone 1-888-728-7228, ext. 8235, or by email
