Wanted: Champions for Children

Presbyterians Today magazine seeks nominees for special recognition

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Children in today's society have many needs. Not only
are they among the most vulnerable to hunger, poverty and violence, they are
the least likely to have a voice at the tables where decisions are made that
affect their lives. They depend on parents, teachers, pastors, public
officials and others who are willing to listen to them, to be their mentors
and advocates.

As one of its contributions to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) "Year of
the Child" emphasis, Presbyterians Today magazine is looking for "Champions
for Children" -- Presbyterians who are working to make life better for
today's children and young people.

Their stories will be told in an upcoming issue of the award-winning
magazine.

To suggest a candidate for "Champions for Children," send a brief
description of your nominee's efforts to make a difference in the lives of
children to:

	Champions for Children

	Fax: (502) 569-8632
	PresbyNet inbox: today
	E-mail: today@pcusa.org

To help Presbyterians Today select a diverse group of people to feature in
the magazine, please include each nominee's approximate age, church (name
and location), and racial or ethnic background. Also include a phone number
and/or e-mail address so we can contact your nominee(s).

	Send nominations by Feb.1, 2000.
