Marj Carpenter suffers broken hip in fall
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Marj Carpenter, known to most Presbyterians for her
tireless advocacy of Presbyterian mission, suffered a broken hip Nov. 28 in
a fall outside her home in Big Spring, Texas.
Carpenter told the Presbyterian News Service she was getting into a
friend's car when the brake slipped and threw her to the ground. "The driver
feels much worse about this than I do," she said.
She will undergo surgery in the next few days in Big Spring and then will
be transferred to a physical rehabilitation center in nearby Midland.
Carpenter was director of the Presbyterian News Service for 15 years until
her retirement in 1993 and then was elected moderator of the 1995 General
Assembly. For many years she has maintained a rigorous public speaking
schedule, lifting up Presbyterian mission in thousands of congregations,
hundreds of presbyteries and countless other church gatherings. She has
visited mission sites in 100 countries.
Greetings and well wishes can be sent to Marj Carpenter, Scenic Mountain
Medical Center, 1501 West 11th Place, Room 320, Big Spring, TX 79720.
