WALTZ TO RETIRE DEC. 31 AS PHILADELPHIA BAPTIST
ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE
The Rev. Larry K. Waltz, executive minister of the
Philadelphia Baptist Association since 1984, will retire
Dec. 31.
During his 17 years of leadership of the oldest
regional organization within American Baptist Churches USA--
PBA was founded in 1707--Waltz has held wide-ranging
administrative and pastoral responsibilities for his
region's approximately 125 congregations and 49,000 resident
members. He has been instrumental in instituting many
innovative neighborhood and educational ministries within
the region and has served in numerous capacities within the
wider American Baptist Churches USA family.
A region staff member since 1971, he previously served
as associate executive minister of the Philadelphia Baptist
Association. Prior to that he was associate pastor of First
Baptist Church of Lansdale, Pa., and pastor of First Baptist
Church of Dalton, Pa.
"The Association is now one of the finest models of
American Baptist life," he noted, "and will continue to make
a generous contribution to the Kingdom of God as we move
toward a more whole and inclusive society.... It has been a
wonderful privilege to be the executive minister of one of
God's great creations."
