WALTZ TO RETIRE DEC. 31 AS PHILADELPHIA BAPTIST
ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE
 The Rev. Larry K. Waltz, executive minister of the 
Philadelphia Baptist Association since 1984, will retire 
Dec. 31.
 During his 17 years of leadership of the oldest 
regional organization within American Baptist Churches USA--
PBA was founded in 1707--Waltz has held wide-ranging 
administrative and pastoral responsibilities for his 
region's approximately 125 congregations and 49,000 resident 
members.  He has been instrumental in instituting many 
innovative neighborhood and educational ministries within 
the region and has served in numerous capacities within the 
wider American Baptist Churches USA family.
 A region staff member since 1971, he previously served 
as associate executive minister of the Philadelphia Baptist 
Association.  Prior to that he was associate pastor of First 
Baptist Church of Lansdale, Pa., and pastor of First Baptist 
Church of Dalton, Pa.
 "The Association is now one of the finest models of 
American Baptist life," he noted, "and will continue to make 
a generous contribution to the Kingdom of God as we move 
toward a more whole and inclusive society.... It has been a 
wonderful privilege to be the executive minister of one of 
God's great creations."
