CAROL FRANKLIN SUTTON NAMED NATIONAL MOVEMENT DIRECTOR FOR
NEW LIFE 2010
The Rev. Carol Franklin Sutton, executive director of
American Baptist Women's Ministries, will become national
movement director for the denominational NEW LIFE 2010
emphasis on March 1, 2001.
NEW LIFE 2010 seeks to plant 1,010 new churches, reach
1,000,010 new believers, vitalize a multitude of caring
ministries and equip a host of transformed disciples in
American Baptist congregations by the year 2010.
As national movement director Sutton will interface
with American Baptists at local, regional and national
levels to support, encourage and promote the goals of NEW
LIFE 2010. She will work on behalf of Dr. Jean B. Kim,
executive director of Educational Ministries; Dr. Aidsand F.
Wright-Riggins III, executive director of National
Ministries; and the NEW LIFE 2010 Leadership Council of the
General Executive Committee.
Sutton began serving as executive director of American
Baptist Women's Ministries in January 1994. Prior to her
tenure there she served for 11 years as a commissioned
American Baptist home missionary in National Ministries'
Office of Governmental Relations in Washington, D.C. She
formerly worked as minister of Christian education at First
Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.; as information assistant
at the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs; and as a
high school English teacher.
In announcing the appointment Wright-Riggins noted
Sutton's wealth of experience in local church leadership,
denominational programmatic direction and management of
American Baptist Women's Ministries which "uniquely equips
her for this role at this time in our history." In
addition, he said, "Carol Sutton's experience on the ABC
General Executive Council and her years of collegial
interacting with regional and national executives is
invaluable to the future we envision."
The Rev. Karen Selig, president of American Baptist
Women's Ministries, said the organization will miss Sutton's
leadership. "Her gifted leadership has strengthened us,"
she said, "and we look forward with great expectation to the
future God has planned for ABW Ministries. Our consolation
as Carol leaves is the knowledge that in her new calling
with NEW LIFE 2010 she will continue to touch the lives of
women and girls in every church she visits."
