JERUSALEM, December 29, 2000--Bishop Munib A. Younan, head of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church of Jordan, has been awarded the Finnish Peace Prize for the
year 2001.
The prize was given for Bishop Younan's efforts in promoting just peace,
coexistence, and dialogue among the three monotheistic religions in the Holy
Land, the whole Middle East and all over the world.
This prize is usually awarded annually by the Christian Peace Movement in
Finland to political and religious personalities in appreciation for their
efforts in promoting just peace, coexistence, dialogue and reconciliation.
In his first comment, Bishop Younan said that he is honored to receive this
prize which he considers as a prize for his Church in first place, for his
Palestinian people in second place and for his family and himself in third
place.
Bishop Younan promised "to continue on this path until a comprehensive just
peace, peaceful coexistence and reconciliation prevail in Palestine and
Israel and all over the world."
