Teleconference will explore effects of domestic violence on children
Presbyterian Men sponsoring Feb. 25 event

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Following up on last year's hugely successful
teleconference on violence against women, the Office of Men's Ministries of
the Presbyterian Church (USA), in cooperation with the Women's Ministries
Program Area, is sponsoring a follow-up teleconference on Feb. 25 that will
focus on the effects of domestic violence on children.
The free, live, interactive teleconference will originate from Peachtree
Presbyterian Church in Atlanta from 5 p.m. to 7, Eastern Standard Time.
Entitled The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children: Challenge to the
Church, the teleconference will feature presentations by a panel of experts
and a question-and-answer period with a live audience at Peachtree Church
and an audience of thousands connected by downlink from around the country.
More than 2,000 people at 59 downlink sites in 24 states participated in
last year's teleconference.
The Rev. Brian Ogawa, director of the Crime Victims' Institute in the
office of the Texas Attorney General and a former director of the National
Academy for Victim Studies, at the University of North Texas, will be the
panel moderator.
Panelists include Cindy S. Lederman, a juvenile court administrative judge
in Florida; Vickii Coffee, a nationally recognized policy advocate and
educator who is a member of the National Advisory Council on Violence
Against Women and the U.S. Defense Department's Task Force on Domestic
Violence; Martha Bettis Gee, associate for curriculum and resources for
children for the PC (USA), a former co-chair of the Committee on Justice for
Children and Families of the National Council of Churches; and the Rev.
Carol Pitts, a Presbyterian minister and psychotherapist.
The teleconference will be available by downlink as well as by "c" or "ku"
band.
