CONGO MISSIONARIES SAFE, MISSION AREAS CALM
FOLLOWING ASSASSINATION
American Baptist International Ministries is in
contact with American Baptist missionaries in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo who report that the situation in each
of the mission areas remains calm following the
assassination of President Laurent Kabila earlier this week.
Kabila was shot at his palace Jan. 16 and evacuated to
Zimbabwe to receive medical attention. Kabila's son, Joseph
Kabila, currently is taking his father's place with
government backing.
"Please pray for our national partners, missionaries
and for stability in the Congo during this uncertain time,"
said John Sundquist, executive director of International
Ministries.
