CONGO MISSIONARIES SAFE, MISSION AREAS CALM  
FOLLOWING ASSASSINATION
 American Baptist International Ministries is in 
contact with American Baptist missionaries in the Democratic 
Republic of the Congo who report that the situation in each 
of the mission areas remains calm following the 
assassination of President Laurent Kabila earlier this week.
 Kabila was shot at his palace Jan. 16 and evacuated to 
Zimbabwe to receive medical attention.  Kabila's son, Joseph 
Kabila, currently is taking his father's place with 
government backing. 
  "Please pray for our national partners, missionaries 
and for stability in the Congo during this uncertain time," 
said John Sundquist, executive director of International 
Ministries.
