RICHMOND, Va. - Samuel K. Roberts will join the faculty of Union Theological
Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education as professor of
theology and ethics in the Anne Borden and E. Hervey Evans Chair of Social
Ethics, beginning July, 2001. Roberts has served as professor of Christian
ethics and director of the doctor of ministry program at the Samuel DeWitt
Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University since 1985. He has
also served on the faculty at Union in New York and Pittsburgh Theological
Seminary.

SAN ANSELMO, Calif. - Jan M. Opdyke has begun work at San Francisco
Theological Seminary as director of development. Opdyke, a Presbyterian, is
a longtime leader at First Presbyterian Church of Redlands, where she has
served both as an elder and a deacon. Her responsibilities include
soliciting gifts, visiting Southern California churches and assuring that
Institutional Annual Fund and Student Support Gift goals are met.

PRINCETON, N.J. - Lilly Endowment has made a grant of $380,948 to Princeton
Theological Seminary's Institute for Youth Ministry to develop research on
youth ministry. Called Bridges, the project will design strategies to
"bridge" new pastors' transition from seminary into professional ministry in
a way that develops sustainable practices of youth ministry. One part of the
program will be professional development training for 25 pastors who are
transitioning from seminary to youth-ministry-focused pastorates. For more
information, call Leslie Dobbs-Allsopp at (609) 688-1949.
