	INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- The senior minister of National City
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is the nominee for
moderator of the denomination.

	If elected, the Rev. Alvin O. Jackson, Washington, D.C., will
preside over the General Assembly, its General Board and
Administrative Committee through the 2003 assembly. The General
Assembly will vote on his  nomination during its July 13-17
meeting in Kansas City, Mo.

	The July meeting will be the second "common gathering" with
ecumenical partner, the United Church of Christ, and its General
Synod. More than 10,000 persons from across North America will
convene under the synod/assembly theme, "Gather at the Welcome
Table."

	Serving along with Jackson during the biennium, upon election,
are Los Angeles librarian, Pat Puyuyo, and Rochester, Ind.,
attorney Ted A. Waggoner. Puyuyo and Waggoner are the nominees
for first and second vice moderator, respectively.

	As first vice moderator, Puyuyo's duties will involve leading
worship planning for the 2003 assembly in Charlotte, N.C.
Waggoner's tasks will include chairing the General Board section
handling assembly business.

	Other highlights of the July event include preaching by
Disciples minister, the Rev. Mary Donovan Turner, Berkeley,
Calif., United Methodist storyteller Ray Buckley and the Rev.
Zaida Maldonado Perez, Princeton, N.J., of the United Church of
Christ. In addition, Sweet Honey in the Rock, the Grammy-winning
women's a capella group, will perform July 15. Keynoting the
evening celebration will be the Rev. Setri Nyomi, general
secretary of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, Geneva,
Switzerland.
