INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- A retired general church executive and a
seminary librarian/faculty member will serve as interim
administrators at Lexington (Ky.) Theological Seminary.

The Rev. Harold R. Watkins, Indianapolis, has been named
interim president of LTS. The Rev. Philip N. Dare, Lexington,
has been appointed acting dean of the seminary. Both Watkins and
Dare are alumni of the Disciples-related school.

Watkins succeeds the Rev. Richard L. Harrison, Jr., who has
accepted a pastorate in Richmond, Va. The retired president of
Board of Church Extension (1995) assumes the new appointment in
May. He served as interim director of field education for the
institution from 1998 to 2000.

Watkins served as pastor of congregations in Tucson, Ariz., and
Tuscaloosa, Ala., and served on the boards of trustees for the
National City Christian Church Corporation, Washington, D.C.,
and Bethany (W. Va.) College. He currently sits with the
governing body of the United Church of Christ Insurance Board.

Dare was named acting dean by current LTS President Richard L.
Harrison. Dare, currently the seminary librarian and professor
of theological studies, will serve until the end of the present
academic year. The board of trustees' executive committee then
approved him to serve a subsequent year.

A search for a new dean is not expected to begin until late
2001. Dare succeeds the Rev. Anthony Dunnavant who died Feb. 8.
