INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- A suburban Phoenix, Ariz., clergy couple
has been called as co-regional ministers of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) in Oregon.

The Revs. Douglas and Cathy Myers Wirt will assume their new
posts in June. Their calls were extended by the Oregon regional
board.

Douglas is currently senior pastor of Foothills Christian
Church in Glendale, Ariz. Cathy is director of small group
ministries for the Division of Homeland Ministries, Indianapolis.

The new appointment will mean a homecoming for the regional
ministers-elect. They were co-pastors of Mallory Avenue
Christian Church in Portland. While there, Douglas also served
another congregation in the city and was director of two
ecumenical agencies. Cathy previously served as associate
regional minister in Oregon.

In Arizona, Cathy served for two years as co-pastor of the
Glendale congregation and was associate regional minister for
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Arizona.

Douglas Wirt holds a bachelor of arts degree from Carleton
College, Northfield, Minn., and master of divinity and doctor of
ministry degrees from Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley,
Calif., and San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo,
Calif., respectively.

Cathy Wirt earned a master of divinity degree from PSR and a
master of arts degree from Lewis and Clark Graduate School of
Professional Studies, Portland.

The Wirts have been involved with regional boards, commissions
and committees in Arizona and Oregon. They also served as staff
to youth camps in both regions. Cathy is a past member of the
Disciples General Board and Administrative Committee, the
General Nominating Committee and the National Benevolent
Association board of trustees.

Doug is a past member of NBA Waymark Gardens board of directors
and served on the board of trustees for Pacific School of
Religion. The couple also has participated in community
activities in Portland and in Phoenix.

The couple has two children, Jacob and William.
