by Jerry L. Van Marter
SAN ANSELMO, Calif. - The Alumni Council of San Francisco Theological
Seminary has extended until March 15, 2002, the deadline for its new hymn
competition.
The competition is open to everyone. Entries must be no more than four
verses, and may be lyrics to the music of an existing hymn or an entirely
new hymn. The hymn will be used in worship, commencement ceremonies and
other special events at the seminary.
The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a plaque with the name of
the composer/writer will be displayed in the seminary's historic Montgomery
Chapel.
Entries will be judged by how well they reflect SFTS' mission statement to
reflect "the community of women and men from diverse cultural, racial and
ethnic backgrounds that respond to the challenges facing theological
education in different contexts, national and international, in the western
United States and around the Pacific Rim."
For more information or to submit an entry, contact Shelley Calkins, SFTS
Hymn Competition, 2 Kensington Road, San Anselmo, CA 94960.
