CAPITAL UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT RESIGNS TO PURSUE NEW OPPORTUNITIES

     COLUMBUS, Ohio (ELCA) -- Dr. Daniel A. Felicetti, the 13th
president of Capital University,  will leave the university effective
May 20.  Felicetti, who began his presidency in August 1999,  plans to
pursue other career interests. Capital University is one of 28 colleges
and universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
     "The members of the board of trustees wish Dan and his wife,
Barbara, the best as he moves on to pursue other interests in higher
education," said Robert J. Weiler, Bexley, Ohio, chair of Capital
University's board of trustees.  "We are indebted to Dr. Felicetti for
his impressive record of service.  I feel he has laid a strong
foundation for his successor."
     "Capital University has been an institution of great strength and
academic quality for more than a century and a half, and I am confident
that our students, faculty, administration and alumni will work together
to keep Capital moving forward during the upcoming transition," Weiler
added.
     During Felicetti's presidency, Capital made significant progress
in all areas of university life, especially in setting institutional
priorities through strategic planning, marketing and enrollment
management.
     "Dan's contributions to these critical areas in Capital's
long-range plans is helping focus the university's priorities," Weiler
said.  "His commitment to raising the university's profile across the
state and throughout the nation struck a chord with many in the Capital
community.  I believe Dan accomplished more in his tenure at Capital
than many university presidents achieve in 10 years."
     Felicetti said he based his decision to leave on confidential
discussions he had with the chair of the board about various governance
matters, as well as his own desire to pursue new modes of educational
service, probably on the East Coast.  Thinking about his presidency, he
said he is pleased by the progress that is being made in a wide range of
areas that will have a positive impact on the future of the university.
     "I leave Capital with a sense of pride in all that has been
accomplished and with the expectation that the foundation for a strong
transition has been established," Felicetti said.  "I am confident that
this excellent university has an outstanding future ahead."
     Weiler said the university's board of trustees will begin the
process of selecting an interim president soon and said he is hopeful
the process will be completed before May 20.
