DECATUR, GA - The recent collision of a U.S. reconnaissance plane and a
Chinese fighter off the coast of China has made Agnes Scott College
President Mary Brown Bullock very popular among the media as an expert on
Chinese culture and politics. The day after the April 1 accident, Bullock,
director of the Committee on Scholarly Communications with the People's
Republic of China, appeared on a CNN afternoon program. Since then she has
appeared on other programs on CNN, NBC and MSNBC. In her view, the first
goal of negotiations should be the safe return of the American crew.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Eckerd College has named Donald R. Eastman III as its
president, effective July 1. The announcement followed a seven-months-long
national search. Eastman will be the fourth president of the
Presbyterian-related college, replacing Peter H. Armacost. Eastman, who has
more than 30 years' experience as a professor and administrator, has been
employed by the University of Georgia since 1991.

KERRVILLE, TX - The Schreiner University board of trustees named Charles
Timothy "Tim" Summerlin as the school's fifth president on March 20.
Summerlin had been provost and vice president for academic affairs since
1999. On June 1 he will succeed interim president Sam McDowell Junkin.

NEW HAVEN, CT - Yale University President Richard C. Levin has announced
that Rebecca S. Chopp will be the next dean of the Yale University Divinity
School. Chopp will take the reins of the interdenominational graduate
divinity school on July 1. She will be the 13th dean of the school and the
first woman to hold the position.
