Marriage Training for the Married
Taipei, 27th May 2001 (TCN)
Taiwan's divorce rate has sextupled over the past three decades.
Currently more than 50 thousand couples divorce every year in this small
nation. Every counseling center in the country reports their major
case-load to be taken up by problems between wives and husbands or those
between parents and children.
To provide for the creation of healthy marriages, the Taipei
Christian Academy and seven congregations of the Presbyterian Church in
Taiwan in Northeast Taiwan are conducting a marital communications
training workshop. This activity promotes re-acquaintance between
husbands and wives, practical communications skills, cooperation and
revived marriage relationships. By drafting planned manners of acting,
family strength is increased.
Chang Kun-ti, director of the Christian Academy, said, "Many people
lack the ability to know and select what is best. In marriage there is a
basic need for mutuality. Wen this is present, even in times of conflict
communication can be maintained and understandings worked out. Such
situations lead towards marital bliss and family health."
