Three honored for work birthing health and wholeness

LOUISVILLE, June 10 - Hundreds gathered on Sunday, June 10 for a breakfast
honoring the recipients of the 2001 Women of Faith awards at the 213th
General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

	The honorees were chosen from among ninety women nominated for living "a
vision of God's new day, overcoming brokenness and fragmentation as
peacemakers, parish nurses, those in health professions, pastoral
counselors, therapists, midwives ..."

	Presented by Edith F. Patton, elder Sue Donovan Mooney(Overbrook P.C.,
Presbytery of Scioto Valley) is a parish nurse who has served on the Parish
Nurse Task Force and the Presbyterian Health Network.

	Elder Pearl V. "Mother" Prater (New Liberation Church, Presbytery of San
Francisco) was introduced by Shirley Patton. When she was no longer able to
maintain her church garden, Prater also became a parish nurse because of her
concern for "the little ones who need loving, seniors who struggle against
physical and economic limitations, and all those who need advocates against
neglect or injustice."

	Ernestine Cole presented "just Marilyn" Washburn, a physician, clergywoman,
and teacher (parish associate, Druid Hills P.C., Presbytery of Greater
Atlanta). Washburn served as the first convener of the Presbyterian Health
Network and the second convener of the Presbyterian Serious Mental Illness
Network.

	Attendees at the breakfast cried and rejoiced at the stories of each
honoree and went out confessing, that "... wholeness is our deepest need."
