INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- The Rev. Randall S. Johnson, senior
minister of Southport Christian Church in Indianapolis since
1995, has been named vice president of the newly created
Southeast Zone of the Christian Church Foundation.

Johnson will work primarily in the states of Kentucky,
Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Alabama, assisting donors in
making planned gifts and helping congregations and other
entities related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
with permanent fund policies and investing.

The Rev. James P. Johnson, foundation president, said Randy
Johnson is one of the denomination's brightest pastors and
believes he will be instrumental in furthering the foundation's
ministry. "We are pleased to have Randy with the foundation. His
excellent pastoral skills and experience make him a good fit for
the foundation's unique ministry of raising permanent funds that
benefit the whole church."

The new Southeast Zone was created to provide additional
foundation resources to donors and congregations in that part of
the United States, the foundation president added. The addition
of that zone allowed other zones to be reduced in size, freeing
up staff to spend a greater amount of time in smaller
territories.

Randy Johnson will begin his new duties Sept. 1. Before serving
the Southport congregation, he had been minister of Boardman
Christian Church in Youngstown, Ohio, for about 11 years. He
also served as an associate minister at Central Christian Church
in Warren, Ohio.

The new vice president received his master's of divinity degree
from Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1981; he
completed his undergraduate work at Grove City (Penn.) College.
Johnson and his wife, Sandy, have three children.

Johnson has held various positions within the regional
manifestation of the church, including most recently serving as
search committee chair for the calling of a new regional
minister for the Christian Church in Indiana.
