Geneva Press holds breakfast

by Frank Buhrman

LOUISVILLE, June 12 - Geneva Press shined the spotlight on its new Call to
Worship planning resource journal during its annual breakfast Tuesday during
the 213th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) at the
Kentucky International Convention Center.

The event also honors the imprint's authors, and this year it introduced
Geneva's new editorial director, Janice Catron.

Call to Worship (the full title adds Liturgy, Music, Preaching & the Arts)
replaces the successful journal Reformed Liturgy and Music, said the Rev.
Theo Gill, who handles and edits the project under Geneva Press and the
General Assembly Council Office of Theology and Worship.

The Office of Theology and Worship reorganized its project resources and
now partners with Geneva Press working on theological and liturgical
publications.

Noting that those involved with Reformed Liturgy and Music felt that
"things could be improved," Gill said that Call to Worship added a broader
array of pastoral resources. Call to Worship includes expanded resources for
small congregations. Lectionary aids through November, 2002, are provided
in the June issue allowing for ample planning time.

In its first year, Call to Worship will reprint some of the most popular
content from Reformed Liturgy and Music, reflecting the turnover in
readership, he said.

Call to Worship is a quarterly publication available for subscription for
$24 per year, and subscribers at the Assembly (Geneva Press has an exhibit
hall display) may take the first issue with them.

The press's new editorial director, Catron, said that she was able to "ride
on the wave" of Geneva's successes during her first five weeks on the job.
"It's been a fascinating few weeks," she said.

Catron told those in attendance of her transformation at age 19 from a
would-be veterinarian to someone aiming toward a Christian vocation (first
in Christian education, then ordination as minister of word and sacrament).

When she made her choice, she said, her pastor set her to work organizing
her church's library, an immensely rewarding job made slower because "I read
nine books out of ten."

Geneva Press serves the ministry of the PC(USA) with a variety of books and
other publications on theology and worship.
