Writers Guild honors David Steele

by Jane Hines

LOUISVILLE, June 15 - The Presbyterian Writers Guild has honored one of its
most beloved members by renaming its most prestigious award the David Steele
Distinguished Writer Award. Steele was present for the annual Guild
luncheon on June 14 to hear accolades from the Guild voiced by poet Barrie
Shepherd and to receive a standing ovation.

This year the Steele Distinguished Writer Award went to Pulitzer Prize
winner Edwin Burrows, co-author of Gotham, an impressive history of New York
City. Speaking at the luncheon, Burrows noted the prominent role that early
Presbyterians played in the history of the city.

The Guild's Jim Angell Award for the best first book written by a
Presbyterian in the past year went to Steve McCutchan for Experiencing The
Psalms.
