General Assembly approves $0.27 increase
in per capita apportionment for 2002
by Frank Buhrman
LOUISVILLE, June 16 – The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) on Saturday approved an increase of $0.27 in the per capita
apportionment for the 2002 budget.
The increase brings the total General Assembly per capita apportionment for
2002 to $5.25.
Presbyteries and synods set additional apportionments separately for their
expenses.
The 2002 General Assembly apportionment supports a per capita budget of
$14,704,233. Assembly actions added $129,599 to that budget. Procedures
Committee Moderator William Neal noted and characterized as “good
news” the fact that the increase had been limited, since the financial
implications of all proposals before the Assembly would have added $0.25, or
more than doubled the increase.
Assembly actions added another $102,485, or $0.04 per capita, to the 2001
budget. Those expenses will be absorbed in the budget, per capita cannot be
changed during a budget year. Neal said that the increase would be
“funded by careful expenditures of this budget.”
The 2003 budget also will be affected, since the Assembly actions have
added financial commitments totaling $95,716, or $0.04 per capita, for that
budget year, which also will be affected by actions of the 2002 General
Assembly.
