GENERAL SECRETARY SEARCH COMMITTEE 
CONTINUES WORK
 The search committee charged with identifying a 
candidate to serve as the next general secretary of 
American Baptist Churches USA is continuing its work, and 
expects to present a name for consideration to the 
denomination's General Board when it meets in November.
 American Baptist Churches USA President Trinette 
V. McCray reported in late June to the General Board and 
to participants at the ABCUSA Biennial Meeting that 43 
nominations had been received before the end of the 
nominating period on May 15.  Sixteen applications have 
come in.
 The search committee met immediately following 
the Biennial Meeting in Providence, R.I., to continue the 
process of discussing the nominations and narrowing the 
field.  
 Initial interviews will take place in early August 
and final interviews are scheduled for September.
Dr. Robert H. Roberts has been serving as interim 
general secretary since the retirement of Dr. Daniel E. 
Weiss last Aug. 31.
