Archbishop of Canterbury appoints new Assistant Officer for the Anglican
Communion and Ecumenism

The Archbishop of Canterbury has appointed the Revd William Adam as his
Assistant Officer for the Anglican Communion and Ecumenism.

Will Adam is currently Team Vicar in Witney in the Oxford diocese following
his curacy spent at Beaconsfield, and since 1998 has been one of the Oxford
Diocese's Ecumenical Officers.

As well as substantial ecumenical work within his own parish and diocese, Mr
Adam's experience includes time spent at the Ecumenical Institute of the
World Council of Churches in Geneva, and also being part of the Church of
England delegation to the Assembly of the World Council of Churches in
Harare in December 1998. He has also published a number of articles on the
modern ecumenical movement.

Mr Adam said, "I am looking forward to joining the Archbishop's staff at
Lambeth Palace. Over the last ten years I have been informed, encouraged and
challenged by my contact with Christians from other traditions, from all
over the Anglican Communion, and from other parts of the world. I remain a
convinced Anglican but am also committed to working towards the full visible
unity of all Christian people which for so long has been the aim of the
ecumenical movement."

Mr Adam, 31, is married to the Revd Lindsay Adam, who is Curate of Bampton
with Clanfield, Oxford, and they have one daughter. He will take up his
appointment at Lambeth Palace on 1 October.
