United Methodist Bishop Paul Locke Granadosin, 76, died Oct. 4 at a Manila
hospital in the Philippines after suffering a heart attack.
Elected a bishop in 1968, his assignment was to the Baguio Area, which
includes all of Luzon Island north of Manila. But at one point, because of a
vacancy in the Manila area, he served as bishop for the entire country.
Granadosin retired for the first time in 1992. In 1996, he was asked by the
Council of Bishops to serve the Davao Area for the 1997-2000 quadrennium. He
retired a second time on Dec. 31, 2000.
The son of a Filipino Methodist minister, Granadosin was born on Aug. 25,
1925, in Los Angeles, where his father had gone to complete his theological
education. A former Crusade Scholar, he was a graduate of Philippine
Christian College and Union Theological Seminary, both in Manila, and
received his master's degree in theology from Garrett-Evangelical Seminary
in Evanston, Ill.
Before his election, he was superintendent of the Manila district for about
five years and served as one of the ministers of the 4,000-member Knox
Memorial Methodist Church for part of that period.
Granadosin is survived by his wife, Socorro Mella Granadosin, a deaconess,
six sons and 19 grandchildren. Memorial and funeral services are pending.
Cards may be sent to Genesis Granadosin at 1349 Stayner Road, San Jose, CA
95121.
