SANDY COLE, AMERICAN BAPTIST MISSIONARY
IN SOUTH AFRICA, DIES
CaSandra (Sandy) A. Cole, American Baptist
International Ministries missionary in South Africa, died
Oct. 16 in Lombard, Ill. She was 57.
Together with her husband, Dan, she was
commissioned in August 1996 for service in South Africa.
During their first two years there the Coles worked in
Johannesburg with the Baptist Convention of South Africa,
where their experience in business and management was
utilized. In 1998 they were reassigned to the Kwa-Zulu
Natal region (KZN), an area marked by racial and political
turmoil. The Coles were involved in numerous community
outreach ministries, including pastor training, AIDS
awareness, education, and evangelism that emphasized
Christian unity despite racial and tribal diversity.
Dan and Sandy Cole were on U.S. assignment
since July 2000.
Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at
Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Rd., Lombard,
Ill. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 20 at the Lindner Conference Center, Northern Baptist
Theological Seminary, 660 E. Butterfield Rd., Lombard, Ill.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to
International Ministries-AIDS South Africa, P.O. Box 851,
Valley Forge, PA 19482-0851.
Sandy Cole is survived by her husband and three
adult children, Kimberley, Danny and Rebekah. Messages
of condolence can be sent to the family at 650 E.
