DUNBAR RESIGNS FROM AMERICAN BAPTIST
WOMEN'S MINISTRIES
Betsy Dunbar, program associate for Resources
and AB GIRLS, has concluded her work with American
Baptist Women's Ministries, it was announced today by
Executive Director Virginia Holmstrom.
Dunbar, who began her ministry with the
organization in 1994, was responsible for the production of
all resources for ABW Ministries. She also staffed the AB
GIRLS National Leadership Team (comprised of five girls
and five women), working with the Team to develop
resources, programs and events. She was instrumental
last year in adding the new Women of Purpose ministry for
girls and women ages 18-25.
Prior to 1994 Dunbar worked in marketing and
communications, including service as director of
publications at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in
Lombard, Ill., from 1984 to 1992.
Holmstrom noted Dunbar's love for the
organization's ministries with American Baptist women and
girls, which she cited in her letter of resignation.
The national board of American Baptist Women's
Ministries has been engaged in a strategic planning
process since 2000 to reshape its ministries and resources
to appeal to a broader base of women and girls in
American Baptist churches, Holmstrom noted.
The position vacated by Dunbar will be filled as
soon as possible. "I believe God has prepared a person to
work with us to implement the board's new vision for
resources and ministries with women and girls,"
Holmstrom said. "It will be difficult for anyone to match
Betsy's commitment to and love for these ministries."
The ABW Ministries strategic plan calls for the
addition of executive staff over the next several years.
The organization currently is seeking an associate
executive director for development.
