DUDLEY NAMED NATIONAL MINISTRIES'
ASSOCIATE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Rev. Cheryl F. Dudley, associate executive
director for Home Mission Development of American
Baptist National Ministries, has been named National
Ministries' associate executive director.
In her new position, which is effective Nov. 15,
Dudley will work closely with National Ministries Executive
Director Dr. Aidsand F. Wright-Riggins III to continue and
enhance cooperative relationships with American Baptist
home mission partners. Dudley has served on the
National Ministries Leadership Team since 1993. She also
is an associate national secretary of American Baptist
Churches USA.
Dudley supervises National Ministries' Ministry
Center for Mission Services, which includes American
Baptist Personnel Services (ABPS), Chaplaincy and Pastoral
Counseling Services, and Volunteers In Mission.
Dudley joined the National Ministries staff in
February 1993 as manager of the Division of
Congregational Ministries. She was appointed associate
executive director for Home Mission Development in
January 1996 with responsibilities that have included
direction of the "New Christians, New Churches, New
Century" church planting capital campaign and chair of the
planning committee for the American Baptist Staff
Conference on Local Church Vitality.
Before joining the National Ministries staff Dudley
was commissioned an American Baptist home missionary
in October 1984 and served as executive director of
Friendship House of Christian Service in Peoria, Ill., a
Christian center related to National Ministries'
Neighborhood Action Program. She also was acting
director of African American Studies at Bradley University,
Peoria, Ill. Previously she served as associate pastor for
Ward Chapel Church, Peoria, Ill.
Dudley holds an M.Div. degree from Princeton
Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J., and a B.A. degree
from Pomona College, Claremont, Calif. She presently is a
D.Min. candidate at McCormick Theological Seminary,
Chicago, Ill. Dudley is a member and associate pastor at
Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pa.
In announcing the appointment Wright-Riggins
said, "The Rev. Cheryl Dudley has deep roots of service
with The American Baptist Home Mission Societies.
National Ministries has been blessed by her Christ-
centered leadership skills, creativity and commitment to
mission."
TURNER NAMED DIRECTOR OF MISSION
EFFECTIVENESS FOR NATIONAL MINISTRIES
The Rev. Marilyn P. Turner of Norriton, Pa.,
assistant to the pastor/director of Christian education at
Bethlehem Baptist Church in Penllyn, Pa., and primary
business strategy consultant with R.C. Mann Chemical, has
been named director of Mission Effectiveness for American
Baptist National Ministries. Turner will begin Nov. 15 in
her new position.
Dr. Aidsand F. Wright-Riggins III, executive
director of National Ministries, noted that the new position
has been created to improve, measure, monitor and report
the mission effectiveness of the life and ministry of
National Ministries. This effectiveness will be assessed
using environmental scans-which show the needs and
opportunities for mission in the United States and Puerto
Rico-and realistic assumptions about organizational
resources.
Prior to pursuing theological training and
ordination Turner worked with Bell Atlantic of Philadelphia
where she was responsible for development of business
processes with a focus on organizational communications
and corporate business structure.
Turner holds a B.A. degree in Sociology and
Mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh;
an M.S. degree in Organizational Dynamics from the
University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; and an M.Div.
degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary,
Wynnewood, Pa. Currently she serves as president of the
Interfaith Alliance (Philadelphia chapter), secretary of the
Philadelphia Baptist Association Ministers Council,
executive chairperson of the Norristown Area Youth Aid
Panel and member of the Philadelphia Baptist Association
Commission on the Ministry.
In announcing the appointment Wright-Riggins
said, "The Rev. Marilyn Turner has one foot firmly planted
in local church ministry and the other in her commitment
to broader church ministry. She seeks to use her unique
training and background in business and organizational
dynamics to the greater glory of Jesus Christ. We
welcome her to our staff."
