Notes about people
by Jerry L. Van Marter
Michael D. York, 42, who served the Board of Pensions (BOP)of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) for almost 13 years, was buried Oct. 30. The
popular BOP executive died Oct. 26 after battling cancer for more than a
year.
York joined the BOP in 1989 as director of internal audit, but his passion
for member services led him much deeper into the boards work. He moved to
the operations side of the boards work in 1995 and led the BOPs Managing
Total Quality program, bringing to it a lively, energetic, and innovative
style of management and leadership.
York was instrumental in establishing the boards Call Service Center so
that members could make one call rather than having to find their way around
the separate groups within the Board. He then helped create the Regional
Service Teams of the board, an effort to focus on building more and stronger
personal relationships between the members and the BOP staff.
York was a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of Montclair State
University. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Kmiec); son Tyler and
daughter Lyndsey; and his father, Jerry York.

Princeton Theological Seminary before being ordained in 1934. He
subsequently served pastorates in Newark and Orange, NJ, and from 1953-1971
was pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, CA. He served as
president of the Board of National Missions of the former United
Presbyterian Church in the United States of America from 1955-1962 and on
numerous other community and national boards.
Lindquist is survived by a son, the Rev. Ray I. Lindquist of Pavilion, NY; a
daughter, Ruth Lindquist McCalmont of Costa Mesa, CA; two brothers, Alvin
Lindquist of Toms River, NJ, and Dr. Stanley Lindquist of Fresno, CA; six
grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Assembly as manager for polity guidance and training. She succeeds the Rev.
Mark Tammen, who succeeded the Rev. C. Fred Jenkins as director of OGAs
Department of Constitutional Services after Jenkins death late last year.
Radebaugh has broad experience in the Presbyterian Church (USA): as stated
clerk of Western Reserve Presbytery; as a two-term member of the General
Assembly Council; and as a director of the Presbyterian Foundations New

The Worldwide Ministries Division has announced the appointment of the Rev.
Margaret (Peggy) Orr Thomas as interim coordinator for interfaith relations.
Her appointment results from realignments in the division in response to the
tragedy of Sept. 11.
The Rev. Victor Makari, who had divided his time between interfaith
relations and the Middle East, will now serve full-time as area coordinator
for the Middle East.
Thomas has served the Presbyterian Church (USA) as a missionary in Iran,
coordinator for the Middle East and the Jinishian Memorial Program (which
provides assistance to Armenians around the world), and retired as
coordinator for interfaith relations at the beginning of 2000. She currently
serves on the World Council of Churches Advisory Committee on
Interreligious Relations and Dialogue.
