A United Methodist program offering travel and service opportunities for
older adults is making its official debut in 2002.

The Primetimers Program of the denomination's Board of Global Ministries,
designed for people age 50 and older, integrates educational and cultural
experiences with Christian service. After a successful pilot phase in
2000-2001, it has scheduled more than a dozen events for 2002. Most events
cost $300 to $500, which covers room, meals, local transportation, program
and insurance.

Upcoming events include "Heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains," March 3-9 at
Hinton Rural Life Center in Hayesville, N.C.; "Food for Thought - and
Action, Networking Global Hunger Solutions," April 16-19 at ECHO Farms,
North Fort Myers, Fla.; "Blazing the Oregon Trail: Native Tribes, Lewis and
Clark, Trappers, Pioneers and Railroads," June 2-7 at Alton Collins Retreat
Center, Eagle Creek, Ore.; and "The Land of Lincoln, Walking in the
Footsteps of Abraham Lincoln," Sept. 16-21 at the United Methodist Mid-west
Distribution Center, Chatham, Ill.

Two of the 2002 programs, "Preserving the Wealth of Flora and Fauna in Costa
Rica" from April 20-27 and "Understanding the Bible from the Latin American
Reality" from Nov. 24-Dec. 1, are at the Universidad Biblica Latinoamericana
in San Jose, Costa Rica. The cost for each program is $734.
